The Simpsons began on the Tracey Ullman Show and have turned 43-year-old Ullman, who has a small stake in the cartoon, into a multi-millionaire. Her new show, The Trailer Tales, on America's HBO channel pays £600,000 a year. With syndication fees, adverts and an internet site, LA-based Ullman is worth £45m.

2. Anne Robinson, TV frontwoman Worth: £40m
The Weakest Link earns the 59-year-old a fortune, despite being dropped in America. Anne Robinson's deal with the BBC was worth £6m, and in the US she earned double that. With merchandising, spin-offs and one-off shows Robinson has earned more than £25m. And she has invested in property, taking her wealth to £40m.

3. Catherine Zeta-Jones, actress Worth: £30m
Marriage to Michael Douglas catapulted Hollywood-based Catherine Zeta-Jones into riches but she is worth £30m in her own right. The film Chicago paid her nearly £2.5m and last year she earned that again through a profit-sharing deal. Her latest film The Terminal, out this year, earned her £1.7m. Advertising T-Mobile and Elizabeth Arden make £5.8m a year.

4. Jane Leeves, actress Worth: £22m
Her role as Daphne Moon in the TV sitcom Frasier, now in its final series, means Jane Leeves can retire comfortably. The 42-year-old former Benny Hill girl earned £7.85m last year from the show. Married to a Paramount vice-president, she has two children, and owns a production company, Bristol Cities. She has clocked up £22m.

5. Sharon Osbourne, showbiz manager Worth: £20m
The business mastermind behind the Osbournes fortune is Ozzy's wife Sharon, 51, who suggested the fly-on-the-wall series of her family's life to MTV. London-born Sharon made £6m last year, including money earned as Ozzy's manager. With her cut from The Osbournes show, she is worth £20m.

6. Carol Vorderman, TV host Worth: £18m
The queen of TV quiz show Countdown Carol Vorderman has signed a £5m five-year contract. Earnings last year were £4.2m. Ad contracts include a £500,000 deal with First Plus and her Detox For Life book made more than £750,000. The 42-year-old also sells maths and internet books . Shrewd investment brings her wealth to £18m.

7. Cilla Black, former Blind Date host Worth: £15m
She earned 'a lorra lorra' money as TV's favourite cupid on Blind Date, which she stepped down from last year. Cilla's £1.75m-a-year contract was negotiated by her late husband. Money left to her by Bobby Willis, as well as 40 years in the business, have secured Cilla £15m. The 60-year-old has a Buckinghamshire mansion, London penthouse, Barbados pad and an art collection.

8. Liz Hurley, actress Worth: £13m
A JCB digger was added to the wealth of Liz Hurley by a mystery admirer. The 38-year-old, who starred in Bedazzled, picks up £2m per year from a deal with Estee Lauder. She received nothing from film producer Steve Bing, father of her son Damien. With her Chelsea home, Cotswolds estate and LA apartment, Hurley has made £13m.
9. Kim Cattrall, actress Worth: £10.5m
As sex-mad Samantha in TV show Sex And The City, Kim Cattrall doubled her wealth after filming the last series. She also co-wrote a best-selling sex guide. Liverpool-born Cattrall, 47, earned £4.8m from the final series of the show, which has made her more than £10m. She lives on Long Island and is separated from her third husband.

10. Kate Winslet, actress Worth: £10m
Having lost weight, the movie star was back on the Hollywood gravy train last year. The 28-year-old actress made £1.2m from her singing role in Romance & Cigarettes, due out this year. She is now taking time off to have her second child - her first with new husband Sam Mendes. But she will receive a maternity leave bonus from the film Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind which she filmed last year.
She was paid more than £250,000 but will receive another payment depending on its box office success. She recently tripled her initial investment when she sold her North London flat to move into a family home with Mendes. Despite not fully embracing Hollywood Winslet has still managed to personally amass £10m.
